Hello, your untact tour guide, Mr.Been. I`ll show you all the corners of the historic and unique sights around the world. I`ll take you Jongmyo shrine which is one of the UNESCO world heritage sites in Seoul, Korea. I`m sure that Jongmyo Shrine is must-see attraction in seoul.
Only Korea has preserved its royal shrine and continue to perform royal ancestral rites. This is the chief reason that Jongmyo was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995. JongMyo built in 1395 is the supreme state shrine where the sprit tablets of deceased kings and queens of Joseon dynasty (1392~1910) are enshrined and sacrificial rites are performed for them based on Confucian principle.
Jongmyo Shrine was a primary place of worship for kings throughout Joseon Dynasty. The memorial service, called Jongmyo Jaerye, is said to be the oldest complete ceremony in the world, and was carried out in obedience to the king’s order. The ceremony was designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in December 9, 1995, for its well-preserved ancient customs, such as memorial services and traditional music, which is National Intangible Cultural Asset No.56.
Now, it is annually enacted on the first Sunday of May. Jongmyo Jaeryeak, the musical part of the ceremony, is produced by instruments, songs, and dances that originated over 500 years ago.
I hope this posting makes you excitrd by something new. Let`s overcome the pandemic! See ya~
